Motivational Quotes
Politics
Before we get too depressed about the state of our politics, let's remember our history. The great debates of the past, all stirred great passions. They all made somebody angry, and at least once led to a terrible war. What is amazing, is that despite all the conflict, our experiment in democracy has worked better than any form of government on earth.

Best Quotes about Politics
Beware the politically obsessed. They are often bright and interesting, but they have something missing in their natures; there is a hole, an empty place, and they use politics to fill it up. It leaves them somehow misshapen.
Noonan, Peggy
Every political system is an accumulation of habits, customs, prejudices, and principles that have survived a long process of trial and error and of ceaseless response to changing circumstances. If the system works well on the whole, it is a lucky accident -- the luckiest, indeed, that can befall a society.
Banfield, Edward C.
I find myself... hoping a total end of all the unhappy divisions of mankind by party-spirit, which at best is but the madness of many for the gain of a few.
Pope, Alexander
One wanders to the left, another to the right. Both are equally in error, but, are seduced by different delusions.
Horace
It only takes a politician believing in what he says for the others to stop believing him.
Baudrillard, Jean
You know, what I very well know, that I bought you. And I know, what perhaps you think I don't know, you are now selling yourselves to somebody else; and I know, what you do not know, that I am buying another borough. May God's curse light upon you all: may your houses be as open and common to all Excise Officers as your wives and daughters were to me, when I stood for your scoundrel corporation.
Henley, Anthony
Ninety percent of politicians give the other ten percent a bad reputation.
Kissinger, Henry
Politics and the fate of mankind are shaped by men without ideals and without greatness. Men who have greatness within them don't go in for politics.
Camus, Albert
Circumstances give in reality to every political principle its distinguishing color and discriminating effect. The circumstances are what render every civil and political scheme beneficial or noxious to mankind.
Burke, Edmund
Politics in the United States consists of the struggle between those whose change has been arrested by success or failure, on one side, and those who are still engaged in changing themselves, on the other. Agitators of arrested metamorphosis versus agitators of continued metamorphosis. The former have the advantage of numbers (since most people accept themselves as successes or failures quite early), the latter of vitality and visibility (since self-transformation, though it begins from within, with ideology, religion, drugs, tends to express itself publicly through costume and jargon).
Rosenberg, Harold
Let us not forget that we can never go farther than we can persuade at least half of the people to go.
Gaitskell, Hugh
The abjection of our political situation is the only true challenge today. Only facing up to this situation in all its desperation can help us get out of it.
Baudrillard, Jean
Sometimes in politics one must duel with skunks, but no one should be fool enough to allow skunks to choose the weapons.
Cannon, Joseph
Politics can be relatively fair in the breathing spaces of history; at its critical turning points there is no other rule possible than the old one, that the end justifies the means.
Koestler, Arthur
A majority is always better than the best repartee.
Disraeli, Benjamin
Politics are usually the executive expression of human immaturity.
Brittain, Vera
It is my settled opinion, after some years as a political correspondent, that no one is attracted to a political career in the first place unless he is socially or emotionally crippled.
Waugh, Auberon
The essential ingredient in politics is timing.
Trudeau, Pierre Elliott
Politics is a place of humble hopes and strangely modest requirements, where all are good who are not criminal and all are wise who are not ridiculously otherwise.
Colby, Frank Moore
It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.
Reagan, Ronald
There is no more independence in politics than there is in jail.
Rogers, Will
He could not see a belt without hitting below it.
Asquith, Margot
The lounge of the main hotel is full of jollity, with large comfortable men sitting in braces; the bar is packed with talkative intellectuals, full of witty disloyalties. The next week the main hotel is suddenly full of dinner-jackets and large hats. The girls are dressed as if for a weekend in the country. When one of the great men of the party comes through, the crowd edges respectfully away, murmuring loyal noises.
Sampson, Anthony
The more you read and observe about this politics thing, the more you've got to admit that each party's worse than the other. The one that's out always looks the best.
Rogers, Will
Politics has less to do with where you live than where your heart is.
Margaret Cho
The belief that politics can be scientific must inevitably produce tyrannies. Politics cannot be a science, because in politics theory and practice cannot be separated, and the sciences depend upon their separation. Empirical politics must be kept in bounds by democratic institutions, which leave it up to the subjects of the experiment to say whether it shall be tried, and to stop it if they dislike it, because, in politics, there is a distinction, unknown to science, between Truth and Justice.
Auden, W. H.
A candidate could easily commit political suicide if he were to come up with an unconventional thought during a presidential tour.
White, Elwyn Brooks
Politics is the profession of those who have neither trade nor art.
Hijazi, Muhammad
Politics should share one purpose with religion: the steady emancipation of the individual through the education of his passions.
Will, George F.
Now, we deny not, but that politicians may sometimes abuse religion, and make it serve for the promoting of their own private interests and designs; which yet they could not do so well neither, were the thing itself a mere cheat and figment of their own, and had no reality at all in nature, nor anything solid at the bottom of it.
Cudworth, Ralph J.
Nothing is so admirable in politics as a short memory.
John Kenneth Galbraith
An honest politician is one who when he is bought will stay bought.
Cameron, W. J.
A constitutional statesman is in general a man of common opinions and uncommon abilities.
Bagehot, Walter
Politics is the entertainment branch of industry.
I'm not a member of any organized political party, I'm a Democrat!
Rogers, Will
Many politicians lay it down as a self-evident proposition, that no people ought to be free till they are fit to use their freedom. The maxim is worthy of the fool in the old story, who resolved not to go into the water till he had learned to swim.
Macaulay, Lord
A Whig is properly what is called a Trimmer -- that is, a coward to both sides of the question, who dare not be a knave nor an honest man, but is a sort of whiffing, shuffling, cunning, silly, contemptible, unmeaning negation of the two.
Hazlitt, William
Although he's regularly asked to do so, God does not take sides in American politics.
Mitchell, George J.
You need to know that a member of Congress who refuses to allow the minimum wage to come up for a vote made more money during last year's one-month government shutdown than a minimum wage worker makes in an entire year.
Clinton, Bill
Son, in politics you've got to learn that overnight chicken shit can turn to chicken salad.
Johnson, Lyndon B.
If we choose only to expose ourselves to opinions and viewpoints that are in line to our own, we become more polarized, more set in our own ways. It will only reinforce and deepen the political divides in our country. But if we choose to actively seek out information that challenges our assumptions and beliefs, perhaps we can begin to understand where the people who disagree with us are coming from.
President Barack Obama
The success of a party means little more than that the Nation is using the party for a large and definite purpose. It seeks to use and interpret a change in its own plans and point of view.
Wilson, Woodrow T.
Every clique is a refuge for incompetence. It fosters corruption and disloyalty, it begets cowardice, and consequently is a burden upon and a drawback to the progress of the country. Its instincts and actions are those of the pack.
Chiang Kai-Shek, Madame
One thing about a pig, he thinks he's warm if his nose is warm. I saw a bunch of pigs one time that had frozen together in a rosette, each one's nose tucked under the rump of the one in front. We have a lot of pigs in politics.
Mccarthy, Eugene J.
At home you always have to be a politician. When you're abroad you almost feel yourself a statesman.
Macmillan, Harold
A politician is a statesman who approaches every question with an open mouth.
Stevenson, Adlai E.
All political parties die at last of swallowing their own lies.
Arbuthnot, John
Man is by nature a political animal.
Aristotle
In politics, yesterday's lie is attacked only to flatter today's.
Rostand, Jean
In politics people give you what they think you deserve and deny you what they think you want.
Parkinson, Cecil
