Can a car run on steam

Many designs were made for development and experimentation of a steam engine used to power a car. Many attempts failed to make the car run at higher speeds as they became heavy as well. But the first usable steam car was built in 1899 in Conneticut. Among them the best selling car was "Stanley Steamer", built between 1896 to 1924. The car set a new World Speed record going at 127 miles per hour when tested in Florida in 1906.
